About DCA Crypto
DCA Crypto replays a plan on historical daily prices. Pick a coin, an amount and a schedule, and it shows what regular buying (or regular selling) would be worth today, next to doing the same thing in one step. It is a way to understand dollar-cost averaging with real numbers. It does not predict anything and it is not advice.
What you can test
- DCA buy: a fixed dollar amount every day, week, 2 weeks, month, 6 months or year, compared with a lump sum of the same total on day one.
- DCA sell: sell a share of the coins you hold on a schedule (for example 10% every week), or spread the sale over 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, optionally keeping part of the holding. It is compared with selling everything on the first day.
- Every purchase or sale is listed in a table that you can download as CSV. A sell plan can also be exported to your calendar as reminders.
How the numbers are calculated
DCA buy
- Each purchase buys at that day's closing price. If a scheduled day has no price, the next day with a price within 7 days is used. For a monthly plan started on the 31st, shorter months use their last day.
- Coins bought = amount × (1 − fee) ÷ price. The fee is the exchange fee you enter, as a percentage.
- Invested = total amount spent. Average cost = invested ÷ coins held. Value today = coins held × the latest close. Profit = value − invested.
- Lump sum puts the same total into the coin on the first purchase day, at that day's price, with one fee.
DCA sell
- Each sale sells at that day's closing price and the fee is taken from the money received.
- With "% per sale", each sale sells that percentage of the holding you started with, and the last sale takes whatever is left (apart from any part you chose to keep). The end date is calculated from this.
- With a time span, the sellable coins are split into equal parts across the span at your chosen frequency.
- Total value = cash received + coins still held at that day's close. The comparison is selling the same sellable part on the first sale day. Coins you keep are held in both cases.
- Sales dated after the latest known price have no price yet. They are shown as planned.
Where the prices come from
Prices come from the public daily (UTC) candles of exchanges. For each coin we use every exchange that has a finished candle for that day and take the simple average of their opening and closing prices. The calculator uses the closing price.
- With 3 or more exchanges, one whose close is more than 5% from the median is left out for that day.
- With exactly 2 exchanges that differ by more than 5%, both are kept and the day is marked as divergent.
- In the early years of some coins only one exchange traded them. Those days use that single exchange and are marked in the data.
- If no exchange traded on a day (a few days in thin early markets), the previous close is carried forward for gaps up to 7 days.
- Prices are in US dollars. Some exchanges quote in USDT, a dollar-pegged coin, which can differ slightly from the dollar.
- The data is updated automatically every day.

The exchanges listed are the ones that have data for that coin; not every exchange covers the whole history. Exchange and coin names belong to their owners and are used only to say where data comes from. DCA Crypto is not affiliated with them.
What it cannot tell you
- Past results do not predict future results. The same plan on different dates gives very different outcomes.
- Real trading has costs the calculator only roughly includes: spreads, slippage, withdrawal fees and taxes. The fee field covers the exchange fee only.
- Your own exchange's price at the moment you trade will differ from the daily average used here.
